Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren may have taken away the trophy at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup in November, but it was a trio of British golfers who took the breath away.

Paul Barrington, Jeremy Dale and Geoff Swain – members of the Freestyle Golf Roadshow – performed in front of a spellbound crowd of 7,000 people on the 18th fairway before the presentation.

They went through their entire repertoire of shots individually and as a team, hitting off high tees, hitting a moving ball and even driving while balancing on a Pilates ball.

Tenniel Chu, the executive director of Mission Hills Golf Club took time out from celebrating the success of the World Cup to express his astonishment at the ability of the three Britons.

He said: “They were truly remarkable and brilliantly entertaining, highlighting marvellously another hugely popular aspect of golf in what is forecast to be the largest golf market worldwide in the years to come.

“They were a tremendous success with the many thousands of spectators who poured through Mission Hills during the Omega Mission Hills World Cup.”

His sentiments were echoed by Valen Tan, the vice-president of Mission Hills Golf Club, who said: “I think it is very entertaining and can not believe how good these professionals are. It is a show everyone should see if they have a chance.

“This is the lighter side of golf and it is fun for everyone. I enjoyed it and it is great for business entertainment.”

Paul Smith, managing director of the Freestyle Golf Roadshow, added: “This was an ideal venue for the roadshow and we are looking forward to an eventful and exciting 2008 with the concept.

“We are currently in advanced discussions to take the World Freestyle Golf Championship to China, Australia or America – and further roadshows are planned in the UK, Canada, India and Finland.”
